BMW 325i Suspension Coil Spring Replacement Cost Estimate

The fourth generation Corvette was a radical departure from General Motors early Corvette engineering. It eliminated a perimeter frame to support the suspension and driveline. Two front frame rails integrated into the first ever Corvette uni-body construction. This made for an interesting driveline mounting installation. The front suspension subframe was bolted to the frame rails while providing engine mounting points. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REMOVE THE LOWER CONTROL ARM OR BALL JOINT RIGHT NOW!! The C4 has a rear carrier cover that includes mounting bars and eyelets (sometimes called the batwing”). When it fails, the wheel involved will try to part company with your vehicle, and not quite succeed in doing so. This will precipitate two unfortunate events: loss of control at some speed, and considerable damage to the rest of the vehicle.

GM offered replacement front and rear control arms with OE rubber bushings, but these have been discontinued. Final assembly will wait until the suspension and drivetrain are loaded into the car, at which point we will install the steering box, shocks, and torsion bars.

Unlike the larger spring compressors in which the entire strut assembly is inserted inside, portable spring compressors are smaller in size and can easily be carried to wherever they're needed. All the suspension bushings and ball joints needed replacing. The diagram above shows the basic setup of the rear suspension on most passenger cars and SUVs.

The Lisle Anchor Pin Bushing Remover (left) can also be used to press out bushings on leaf spring ends (right). Step 2: Locate the springs and the strut connections. Detailed Procedure for Control Rod Bushing Replacement. We have pins, U-bolts, shackle kits, shocks, hangers, bolts and bushings.

Whether it's one or two, replacing struts typically requires suspension disassembly and wheel realignment, meaning that it is a job best left to the professionals. Under that gob of undercoating, is another 15mm hex bolt, which screws into the end of the strut rod, clamping the bushings into the strut rod.

36: With the new steering linkage assembled, measure the length of one side of the old tie rod assembly. To achieve this we went with PST Polygraphite bushings in the upper control arms and at the sway bar mounts and links, and by adding PST weld-in lower control arm bracing.

I'll leave you to your own devices as to how the loosen the ball joint from the knuckle because the way I do it (with a big hammer and a drift) may mess up the threads if you aren't careful. Step 7: Remove the old strut or shock. Need a service of your fork, shock absorber or steering damper?

Replacing suspension springs can be challenging, as involves making sure all power from the car is disconnected and that the proper tools are used. If the rear suspension assembly is out of the car, just remove the cotter pin and unscrew the nut on the end of the long link bolt.

In 1951 Buick rear shock absorbers, the cover or gasket, rebound and compression valves, valve nuts and gaskets may be replaced with ordinary hand tools. The spindle rods can be removed completely with the spindle knuckle assembly in the car, but they must be supported. Do Suspension Disassembly not rely on the brake hoses and parking brake cables to hold them in place.
